Straight Street Pastoral Advisory Council
Fueling our spiritual vision
A big thank you to the pastors who were in attendance at the preliminary Pastoral Advisory Council meeting that was held prior to the Straight Street board meeting on Sept. 15TH: Bob Rogers (First Assembly of God), Reggie Coe (Grace Church), Kile Bateman (Evangel Temple), Ike Butterworth (First Presbyterian), David Hartman (First Christian), Jerry Royal (First Baptist) and Darrell Brown (Colonial Baptist).
We also welcome the participation of the following pastors who were not in attendance, but have expressed an interest in being involved: Paul Goodrich (First United Methodist), Ron Barnard (Heritage Assembly of God), Angus Thompson (New Jerusalem Baptist) and Father Hoa Nguyen (Sacred Heart Catholic).
When Straight Street separated from the YMCA, the organization was committed to our mission and retaining a high spiritual component. This Pastoral Advisory Council will help ensure Straight Street keeps its spiritual goals clear.
Our preliminary meeting was an insightful discussion about Straight Street, its' direction, and how Pastors of local churches can partner with us on our mission to reach out to at-risk kids (ages 11-18).
The following is the vision we have for the Pastoral Advisory Council:
1.
The most important “job description” of the council is to pray, encourage and advise the Straight Street board, staff and
volunteers in our mission to lead kids to Christ and ultimately to a church home.
2.
The most immediate action is to encourage youth pastors in each Pastor’s church to attend Straight Street’s upcoming
“Compassion Connection” on Nov. 12TH and ask those youth pastors to bring potential Straight Street volunteers to the
event.
3.
The council would meet at the most, quarterly before Straight Street board meetings.
4.
The council would encourage volunteerism in each Pastor’s church and identify those members who would best connect with
*at-risk young people.
5.
The Pastor would invite Straight Street to be featured as a local mission during one worship service per year.
6.
Pastors on the council would receive monthly board meeting minutes to stay connected with the day-to-day activities of the
organization.
7.
Straight Street wants to help the Pastors’ churches connect with *at-risk kids who attend their own churches. In the future,
we will provide training on how to minister to this particular group of teens for the churches' staff and volunteers.
*For our purposes at Straight Street ...an at-risk youth is a young person who is behaving in such a way that if a caring adult does not step into their life with help, they stand a very good chance of hurting themselves or someone else.
